The third stage of the Italian Karting Championship was held last weekend in Siena and the young driver Miguel Costa was one of the highlights with the Sauber Karting Team. The 11-year-old Brazilian finished one of last Sunday (13th) Finals in fourth place and valued his evolution in the X30 Junior category, which has the vast majority of drivers between 12 and 14 years old.
“We left here with our heads held high, it was a stage in which we learned a lot and that we have been improving since the first practice. We had a good recovery in the first race of the finals, when we started 11th and finished seventh. With the inversion of the grid in race 2, I started in second and stayed in that position most of the race, but I finished in fourth. It was a shame not to finish on the podium, but these drivers are much more experienced, so I believe we are getting there and soon we will win”, says Miguel, who has the support of Baked Potato and Participa.
A member of the Sauber Drivers’ Academy, linked with the Alfa Romeo F1 team, Miguel Costa is one of the young revelations of Brazilian karting in Europe and has been racing in the main championships of the world. Adapting to the new category, the go-kart driver dreams of competing in the Karting World Championship in Brazil next year.
Champion among the rookies in the Mini category of the Italian Karting Championship in 2019, Miguel continues to stand out in 2020 and sets a goal to finish the Italian competition in Junior among the top three.
“We are among the first places in the championship and now we have two more stages to reach the top-3, which is our biggest goal. I know the next track in Adria well, so let’s go with everything. There was a little lack of speed at the end of the race for the podium, but we are evolving more and more and I am sure that the victory and the podium are getting closer and closer”, says Miguel.
The next stage of the Italian Karting Championship will take place between the 25th and 27th of September, in Adria, Italy. The final stage is scheduled only for October, between the 23rd and 25th, in Castelletto.
