September 1, 2020Debuting in the Junior category, Miguel Costa will again race among older drivers with the aim of getting on the podium in Sarno; Brazilian driver is the current rookie champion of the Italian Karting Championship
Member of the Sauber Karting Team, a driver’s academy linked to the Alfa Romeo F1 team, Miguel Costa disputes this weekend the second round of the Italian Karting Championship. Current rookie champion, the 11-year-old Brazilian driver makes only his second stage in the 2020 season driving a Junior go-kart, a category in which drivers between 12 and 14 years old usually accelerate. The challenge this time will be at Sarno, a track that even hosted the European Championship last weekend.
“Last week, I went to see the stage of the European Championship, right on the Sarno track, at the invitation of Felipe Massa, who is a great friend. I already feel well prepared for this new category, but as a matter of age I still haven’t been able to accelerate in the CIK-FIA competition, only here in Italian Karting Championship. I am preparing well so that next year I can reach disputing victories and the European and World Karting titles at Junior ”, says Miguel, who has the support of Baked Potato and Participa.
Younger Brazilian in the main European karting competitions, Miguel became known precisely for his talent among older drivers, whether in karting or simulator competitions. For this weekend’s competition, Miguel has experience at the Sarno track for having already competed in it precisely in the Italian Championship in 2019 and in the World Series Karting, still in the Mini category.
“It is an important stage for us here in Sarno. I will have a lot of support from my coach (Dan Hart, who worked with some drivers who are now in F1) and we will do tests with different engines to seek an evolution after the opening of the championship. Sarno is a track that I know well for having already accelerated in the Mini category, but never in Junior. The expectation is good and my goal is to finish this stage on the podium ”, says Miguel, who, before competing in Europe, also collected podiums and victories in the USA.
Karting track located very close to Naples, in southern Italy, Sarno is 1,550 meters long. Official training on the track starts on Friday, while the finals will be disputed on Sunday.
