Miguel Costa had another good performance at Champions of the Future and moved up to fifth place in the championship among the 91 drivers entered. The Brazilian ended the third round of the competition, held this weekend in Kristianstad, Sweden, with the seventh position, after showing strong performance both in the qualifying heats of the OK Junior class.
The driver from the Sauber academy, linked to the Alfa Romeo Formula 1 team, remained among the top ten in all activities. After being sixth in the qualifying session, Costa had a sixth and a seventh place on Friday, when the qualifying heats started. On Saturday, the Brazilian advanced, and finished among the top-5 in the three heats, with a second place in one of the races.
Sunday started with the pre-final (Super Heat), in which Miguel got the third place. In the decisive race, the Brazilian started in sixth, fell to 13th, faced rain and managed to recover positions reaching seventh place in the stage. Champions of the Future works as the “open” of the European Karting Championship and will have one more round in Franciacorta, Italy, between June 23 and 26.
“It was another positive weekend. I showed good pace both in qualifying and in the heats, I was combative and achieved another good result at Champions of the Future. We would have liked to go to the podium, but we will fight for this in the European, which is our main goal in this first semester. The performance we showed this week makes me very confident”, said Miguel.
The Kristianstad round of the European Karting Championship is scheduled two weeks from now, between 2 and 5 June.
