Last weekend, Brazilian Miguel Costa competed in the final round of the WSK Open Cup in Adria and was highlighted with 13 overtaking passes in the Pre-Final of the OK Junior category in Italy. The member of the Sauber Karting Team’s young driver program finished in the top-15 of the race and valued the good result in order to continue his preparation for the World Karting Championship, which takes place at the end of October in Spain.
“Our race pace was very good in the Pre-Final and we also managed a top-10 finish in one of the qualifying heats. We were unlucky again with the tires we were given. It’s something that is out of our control and affects the behavior of the kart a lot. I had the pace to do it, but we were unfortunate enough to get a set of tires with bad performance”, says Miguel, who is supported by Baked Potato and Participa.
The young driver, who comes from a standout season in the X30 Junior category in 2020, had a good start to his OK Junior debut this year in the WSK Super Master Series. Miguel secured a top-5 finish in the Final at La Conca and was the best rookie in the championship in the final standings.
Besides this, the Brazilian obtained a good learning experience in the European Karting Championship, where he was able to drive in tracks in Belgium, France, Italy, and Spain.
“Now the focus is total at the World Cup at the end of the month, that’s what we have been preparing for throughout the year and we are going to keep learning and evolving. We are going with everything, the work can never stop,” says Miguel.
The 2021 World Karting Championship will be held in Campillos, Spain, between October 28 and 31.
