March 10, 2021Young Brazilian driver made 56 overtakes over the weekend in Adria, Italy; next WSK Super Master Series round will be in La Conca, Italy, between March 10 and 14
Last weekend, young Miguel Costa raced in the WSK Super Master Series, which had its first round of the year being raced in Adria, Italy. Member of the Sauber Karting Team, the 12-year-old driver was one of OK Junior’s highlights with a show of overtaking in the Final, but an error by the organization in the qualifying timing hindered his weekend.
“We came out a little bit before the timer stopped, I did the first lap and when I went to cross the finish line to open the second lap, which would be the fastest, the director ended the qualifying about 30 seconds earlier than he should have. So I did just one opening lap and I believe that the next lap would be close to the top-5 due to the speed I was in the kart. It was a shame because it influences the grid of all the heats”, says Miguel, who uses the chassis of Kart Republic and has the support of Baked Potato and Participa.
Debuting in the OK Junior category in 2021, Miguel is one of the highlights of Brazil in European karting. Last year, the young driver competed in Italy and conquered several top-5 and top-10, in addition to finishing the Italian Karting Championship in 7th place.
With a total of 56 overtakes in this WSK Super Master Series round in Adria, a stage in which he also achieved three top-15s among 93 drivers registered in the OK Junior category, Miguel believes that it was possible to finish ahead of the pack, if not for the qualifying adversities.
“The positive part of starting behind in the pack was that we managed to overtake a lot in this round, there were 56 in total, 10 of which were in the Final of the OK Junior category, which we finished in 24th. In one of the qualifying heats, I also made the second best lap of the race, which shows a little bit of the speed we had and how we could have finished ahead if it weren’t for the problems”, says Miguel.
“Let’s raise our heads. This is part of motorsport and we have everything to get stronger in the next stages”, added the member of the Sauber Karting Team.
The next stage of the WSK Super Master Series will take place in La Conca, Italy, between March 10 and 14.
