International karting young revelation Miguel Costa conquered the fifth place in the opening round of the WSK Super Series, disputed this weekend in Lonato, Italy. The Sauber Racing Academy Brazilian driver was able to reverse a complicated start into a strong and consistent performance, which gave him the fifth position at the end of the Italian round.
After the first day, in which he had to overcome problems with his kart, Costa obtained as best result in the first qualifying heats a sixth place. On the following day, the driver improved, achieving two second and one third place in the heats. After the sixth place in the Pre-Final, Costa started seventh in the decision and finished in the top-5.
“I took part in the first round of the Super Master here in Italy, they were very solid days with a lot of teamwork and planning. We achieved the best result of our team, including the chassis and the engine, showing that even in a situation that was not favourable to our set we extracted a top-5, getting close to the fight for the podium. We will keep going up and I will keep giving my best on the track and off it as well,” said Costa, right after the end of the Italian round.
“We are getting closer and closer to the podium and I would like to thank my team, Sauber Karting, which has given me a lot of support in this period. Next week already starts the second round and we will be ready to do some more overtaking again. The year is just starting and I intend to win victories and raise the Brazilian flag on the podium”, added the driver.
The second round of the WSK Super Master is already scheduled for the second weekend of February, again at Lonato.
