The young Miguel Costa, a driver who is part of the Sauber Karting Team and who races on a Kart Republic chassis, competed last weekend in another stage of the WSK Euro Series in Adria, Italy, and was on the spotlight with a total of 13 overtakes in the Final from the OK Junior category. The Brazilian also finished in the top ten in four of the five qualifying heats and valued his evolution throughout the stage.
“We improved our pace with the tires for the Pre-Final and performed well in practically every race. We went from P16 to P8, but I took a 5 second penalty as the kart’s nose got dented. We finished the race at P15 and in the final we started at P30″, explains Miguel, who has the support of Baked Potato and Participa.
“In the Final, the race was also spectacular, I overtook 13 karts, but a punishment equal to the pre-final placed us in P20. If we were a little ahead on the grid, surely a top-10 or top-5 would be possible, because our pace was to fight there at the front of the pack and I still finished with the fifth best lap of a race that had 34 drivers”, he added.
In his first year in the OK Junior category, the young Brazilian has already been featured in the WSK at the beginning of the year and conquered a top-5 in the Final at the La Conca stage, in addition to finishing the championship as the best rookie and great overtakes. In 2020, when he was still competing in the X30 Junior, Miguel had a year full of races between the top five and ten, in addition to the seventh place in the classification of the Italian Karting Championship.
In addition, the 12-year-old driver believes that racing pace with Kart Republic can make a difference in the next stages. “Our speed is very good and our race pace in the Final shows that well. So we’re going to keep working now to get a better start in the next Pre-Finals and Finals at OK Junior, I’m sure our podium will come if we get that. We move on”, says Miguel.
The next and final stage of the WSK Euro Series in 2021 will be played between the 23rd and 27th of June in Sarno, also in Italy.
