Brazilian driver finished three races in the top ten and was very close to qualify for the Final of the OK Junior category, in which he makes his debut in 2021
Young Miguel Costa, a member of the Sauber Karting Team’s young talent program, raced last weekend at the WSK Open Cup, held in Lonato, Italy. With a top-10 pace in qualifying heats, the Brazilian driver finished three races in the top ten and was very close to qualify for the Final of the OK Junior category, in which he makes his debut in 2021.
“We were very fast in tests, very fast in practices and in qualifying it wasn’t bad, I got a P9 in the group. In the heats, I was always inside the top-10, but unfortunately we weren’t able to qualify for the Final. Towards the end of the race, which had mostly rain, my laps were pretty close to the leaders, but we couldn’t recover enough. We needed one more position, but I am focused on continuing to evolve in the next stages”, says Miguel, who has the support of Baked Potato e Participa.
Featured in the WSK at the beginning of the season with a top-5 in the Final in La Conca, Miguel was the best rookie of the Super Master Series and also obtained a good apprenticeship in the European Karting Championship, where he was able to drive on tracks in Belgium, France, Italy and Spain.
Looking for evolution this season, the young Brazilian driver is also focused on preparing for the World Karting Championship, which will now be raced in Europe, in a venue that should be announced in the coming weeks.
“We have another stage of the WSK Open Cup in October and then the preparation for the World Karting Championship, which will be here in Europe and for which I am very excited. It will be a really cool experience. We have the feeling that we could have achieved a better result this weekend, but the total focus now is on the next challenges and we are looking to accelerate with everything”, says Miguel.
The next and final stage of the WSK Open Cup will be raced between September 30th and October 3rd in Adria, Italy.
