One of the young highlights of Brazilian karting around the world and a member of the Sauber Karting Team, Miguel Costa will make his debut at the European Karting Championship this weekend in Genk, Belgium. At just 12 years of age, the Brazilian kartist has accumulated good results at the beginning of the European season and will now seek his first victory in 2021 in the OK Junior category.
“I believe a lot in our work. We have been preparing a lot since the pre-season, we did not take a vacation and we continue to work hard for this debut year in the OK Junior category. It will be very special to race at the European Karting Championship for the first time, it is a very important tournament for me to evolve more and more as a driver, and we are looking for a good result, I hope to win”, says Miguel, who will race with the Kart Republic chassis at kart #208 and has the support of Baked Potato and Participa.
In his debut season in the OK Junior category, Miguel was already featured in the WSK at the beginning of the year and conquered a top-5 in the Final at the La Conca stage, in addition to finishing the championship as the best rookie and with an emphasis on overtakes. The young driver’s first race in the category even took place when he was just 11 years old – OK Junior houses drivers between 12 and 14 years old.
The European Karting Championship will have four stages in 2021 and will go through four different countries: Belgium, France, Italy and Spain. After participating in the European Karting Open in early May, Miguel believes in a quick adaptation to the track and expects a good result among the rookies in the category, just as it was at the WSK.
“It was very special to start the season as the best WSK rookie. I was very happy to be evolving quickly and we will try to keep that in the European Karting Championship. The goal will be to have a quick adaptation to the track and tires, which will be important to achieve a good starting position in the races”, says Miguel, who will be among the 107 drivers registered in the OK Junior category this weekend.
