Brazilian Miguel Costa was one of the highlights of the final round of the 2024 season of the KZ Kart European Championship, held at the Val Vibralta kart track in Italy. Working for the Parolin team, the driver was in the top eight in all the activities he took part in over the weekend, but saw an engine problem take away his chance of a top-five finish in the final.
After finishing sixth in his group in the time trial, Miguel performed well in the qualifying heats. On Friday, he took third place, while on Saturday he secured three sixth places and an eighth. In the pre-final on Sunday, the brazilian was fifth. Starting from 11th position in the final, an engine problem at the start of the race took him out of contention.
“We had a very strong performance in all the activities of the stage. In the warm-up we were in the top five, the same position we achieved in the pre-final. I started the final in 11th and was ready to attack when the engine started to fail, suddenly losing power. I started losing positions and had to retire. I’m sure that a top-five finish was possible,” said Miguel Costa.
The driver, who is already preparing for the transition to single-seaters, will continue his karting season this weekend, in the closing round of the Champions of the Future, which will be held at the PF International Kart Circuit in England. The circuit will also host the World Kart Championship the following week, between September 12th and 15th.
