April 28, 2022The Brazilian driver from Sauber’s academy led the decision and continues on a strong pace for the European Karting Championship
Miguel Costa had a great weekend at the Zuera karting track, in Spain, where the second round of the Champions of the Future was held, a championship that serves as the “open” of the European Karting Championship. The Brazilian driver was one of the main highlights among the competitors of the OK Junior class, winning qualifying heats and getting the fifth position in the final.
The driver, member of Sauber’s academy, was the second fastest in qualifying, and triumphed in three of the five qualifying heats of the weekend. Those results left him third best out of 72 competitors. In the pre-final, Costa was second, starting third in the final, where he was fifth.
“The weekend was almost perfect. We did the second best lap of the weekend, I won three races. I secured a second place in the pre-final and even led the final. Unfortunately, the tyre pressure was a bit low and I couldn’t keep the pace to win. But I showed my real potential and I’m ready for the next stage of the European Championship, here in Spain”, said Miguel.
With the results of the weekend, Costa advanced to the top ten of the championship, appearing in seventh place with 26 points. The championship still counts with two more rounds, scheduled for Finland and Italy.
Miguel Costa’s next commitment will be the second round of the European Karting Championship, scheduled for April 28 and May 1, also in Zuera. Regarding the Champions of the Future, the next round will be held in Kristianstad, Finland, between May 19 and 22.
