Brazilian driver Miguel Costa had a weekend of good results in the Italian Kart Championship, which had its first round in La Conca. The driver led all the KZ2 free practice sessions, set the fastest lap in the races, including the final, and finished the decisive race in second place. Miguel was only left without the trophy because of the sidepod, a side part of the fairing, which escaped from his kart during the final race.
“I consider this to be my best weekend of the season, I managed to be competitive all weekend in La Conca, it’s a shame what happened in the last race, but what a great learning experience because this is my first year in KZ and I’m very happy to be able to compete against very strong opponents,” says Miguel, who competes in the main karting championships in Europe and around the world.
Miguel started the weekend in fifth place in the standings, third in his group. In the first race, after falling to seventh at the start, the driver of the Parolin kart managed to recover to finish third. In the second race, the driver again stood out, starting fourth and finishing second. In the final race, with 36 drivers on the grid, the Brazilian started second and was always close to winner Cristian Bertuca, even at the flag.
“The sidepod fell off my kart on lap 8, when I was very close to first place. I got the warning sign, at first I didn’t even realize it was for me and I was a bit confused as to whether I should go to the pits. I ended up choosing to continue, not least because I wanted to show our potential to fight for victory until the end. I think that if it hadn’t been for this problem with the fairing, we could certainly have won,” explains Miguel, who ended up being disqualified despite finishing second.
