May 6, 2021Sauber Karting Team member achieved good results over the first three stages and will seek to finish the championship in the top five in the OK Junior category
In a good phase in his debut year in the OK Junior category, the driver Miguel Costa races this weekend in the final stage of the WSK Super Master Series, which will take place in Lonato, Italy. Ninth place in the standings, just 17 points away from fifth place (occupied by the current world champion in the category), the Sauber Karting Team member achieved good results over the first three stages and will seek to finish the championship in the top five.
“We had the first stage of the WSK Euro Series here in Lonato recently and it was good to adapt to the track. I had a nice sequence in the Super Master Series earlier this year, with top-5 in the Final in La Conca and two other good results in the Pre-Finals, with a second and third place. I believe we can finish in the top five and it would be great for our debut year in the category”, says Miguel, who will race alongside 87 other drivers at OK Junior this weekend.
After a year of evolution in the X30 Junior category, with several top-5, top-10 and a seventh place in the Italian Karting Championship standings, the young driver continues to stand out among older drivers in international karting. Miguel is 12 years old and debuted at OK Junior with only 11, in a category that houses pilots between 12 and 14 years old.
In the opening round of the WSK Euro Series, Miguel conquered a top-10 in the Pre-Final after gaining 15 positions and was also highlighted with overtaking in the first stage of the Super Master Series, when he had a total of 56 overtakes. With an eye on the rest of the season with the Sauber Karting Team, the young driver will seek his first victories and podiums in the OK Junior category.
“I still want to win my first race at OK Júnior, as well as going up on the podium for the first time. I am sure that our work will be rewarded up front and we will still have many WSK rounds this season, so we will continue to try to evolve with each race ”, says Miguel, who uses the Kart Republic chassis in the # 321 kart and has support from Baked Potato and Participa.
Track activities for the WSK Super Master Series in Lonato start on Wednesday (21) with the first free practice sessions, while the qualifying heats will start on Friday (23) and end only on Saturday (24). The OK Junior Pre-Final is scheduled to take place at 7:40 am (Brazilian time) on Sunday (25th) and the Final will start on the same day at 9:55 am.
