The young Miguel Costa, a member of the Sauber Karting Team, will race this weekend in the second stage of the European Karting Championship, which will take place in Aunay Les Bois, France. After conquering a top-10 in one of the qualifying heats of the opening stage in Genk, Belgium, the Brazilian driver will now seek a place in the top five in the OK Junior category.
“The first stage of the championship was a lot of learning for us and we were able to achieve good results in two heats. We have since been analyzing everything we can improve and adjust for this stage in France, so I am sure we can get stronger on the track in search of a top-5”, says Miguel, who races the Kart Republic chassis on the #208 kart and is supported by Baked Potato and Participa.
In 2021, Miguel was already featured in the WSK at the beginning of the year and had a top-5 in the Final at the La Conca stage, in addition to finishing the championship as the best rookie and with an emphasis on overtaking. In addition, this is Miguel’s first season at OK Junior, a category that has 97 drivers registered for this weekend’s stage.
The tournament will also feature drivers of 42 different nationalities at the event. In his first participation in the European Karting Championship, Miguel values the opportunity to race in a championship of the highest level like this.
“Here we can really say that there are the best kart drivers in the world. It’s a very high level and it makes me learn a lot. I feel honored to be competing in the European Karting Championship and we are working hard to achieve a good result. It would be very rewarding for all of our preparation. Our time will come”, says Miguel.
The free practice of the European Karting Championship in France starts this Friday (28th), the same day that the qualifying will take place. On Saturday (29), the qualifying heats will be held, while the OK Junior Final is scheduled for 8h55 AM (GMT -3) on Sunday (30).
