One of the most competitive championships in European karting, the WSK Super Master Series opened last weekend the 2023 season in Lonato, Italy. The first round had the young driver Miguel Costa as one of the highlights of the OK category, who shone in the qualifying heats, even with engine problems.
In a competitive grid of 51 drivers, Miguel soon placed himself in the top-15 in the free practice sessions, as well as in the first qualifying heat, in which he climbed five positions. In the second heat, Miguel finished 12th, gaining six positions, and in the last heat, he placed 15th after overtaking three times.
“We did well in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but in the qualifying we were without pace, so 18th was the best I could extract. Still, despite the difficulties with the engine, I kept myself in the top-15 during the qualifying heats and in the pre-final I even rode ninth, but 12th was the maximum I could give as well. In the final race, unfortunately, neither the chassis nor the engine worked and I ended up finishing 19th. I was happy for my performance in front of the adversities and I will keep motivated”, said Miguel, who makes his debut in the OK class.
The next round of the WSK Super Master Series is scheduled for February 16-19 at the kart track in Franciacorta, Italy.
