Youngest Brazilian representative at an international pilots' academy, Miguel Costa competed in the first stage of the WSK Super Master, which took place last weekend in Adria, Italy. Rookie champion of the Italian Karting Championship in 2019, the young Brazilian driver featured in the Mini category with recovery races and valued performance with the Sauber Karting Team.
“We had a great recovery after a qualifying in which we had some problems. We led the last free practice, but we had to start in 53rd overall in the qualifying heats. I was recovering positions in each race and started 22nd in the Final, finishing 14th, so in the end it was a positive weekend. The go-kart pace was good and, if we had one more lap, maybe we would finish in the top 10 ”, says Miguel.
Miguel had his first years in karting competing in the United States, winning competitions in Miami, Florida. The driver also piled up good results at the World Kart ROK in 2018 and 2019, the year he moved to Europe to compete in Italy. In his debut year in Europe, Miguel was rookie champion of the Italian Kart Championship with three victories.
In January, the 10-year-old driver was hired to be part of the Sauber Karting Team, linked to the Alfa Romeo F1 team. The Brazilian, who is in Europe where he participates in the complete season of the WSK (World Series Karting), is the youngest driver to have this type of link in a talent development program linked to a team in F1.
“It was very exciting to receive Sauber's invitation to the team of young drivers. One of my biggest dreams is to get to Formula 1 and I'm certainly in the right place to start this journey. I will work hard to achieve a lot here in Europe and evolve more and more as a driver, which is the most important thing ”, says Miguel.
The next WSK Super Master stage takes place between February 20 and 23 at the South Garda Circuit, in Lonato, Italy.
