Last weekend, the young Brazilian talent Miguel Costa ended his season of competitions in Europe in 2020 by racing at the Ayrton Senna Trophy, a traditional kart tournament held in Sarno, Italy. A member of the Sauber Karting Team, the 11-year-old finished only 16th in the X30 Junior Final, but will now focus on preparations for the upcoming season.
“It was our last race of the year and it is a shame that I didn’t get a good result. We had everything to fight for the victory in the right conditions, we got good overtakes in the qualifying heats, but some problems in qualifying and in the races hindered us. But this is the sport, we will continue working now with a focus on 2021”, says Miguel, who uses a Kart Republic chassis and has the support of Baked Potato and Participa.
A member of the Sauber young talent development program, linked to the F1 Alfa Romeo team, Miguel raced his first season in the X30 Junior category and will move up to OK Junior next year, even at the age of 11.
In 2020, Miguel even won several top-5 and top-10 in Italy, in addition to finishing the Italian Karting Championship in seventh place. With an eye on the 2021 season, the Brazilian driver has already started preparing on tests with the Sauber Karting Team in Adria earlier this month and will now continue with preparatory training for the OK Junior category.
“The expectation now is to continue the preparation for the OK Junior category, in which we will compete next year. We will do some training at the end of the year, all with full focus on the first official test, which will take place in the penultimate week of January. We will continue to work physically, mentally and technically to continue evolving on the track, just like it was 2020”, evaluates Miguel.
Miguel’s first race in 2021 will be at the end of January in Adria, Italy, already in the OK Junior category.
