Coronavirus impact postpones SKUSA, where Miguel Costa was the highlight leading practice
March 18, 2020Miguel Costa finishes fourth in international virtual F3 tournament debut
April 5, 202011-year-old driver will race against top go-kart drivers in a simulator tournament with Formula 3 cars; championship will have eight stages, five of them on F1 circuits
Member of the Sauber Karting Team, Miguel Costa starts a different race this weekend. The 11 year-old will participate in an international F3 championship exclusively for go-kart drivers. Dozens of competitors are confirmed to compete in the online competition in several countries, which will be done on the iRacing platform with F3 cars.
Thousands of drivers around the world are not able to compete in their respective cars and go-karts, but the simulator is one of the great allies for them at this time when COVID-19 reaches the world. It was with this in mind that SIM Racing Karters Championship arrives to move young competitors.
“It is a different competition and it is the best way for drivers to stay focused on their goals for the season while we cannot get back to the real tracks. My expectation is very good and it is certainly also an apprenticeship for the sequence of my career, since every driver who seeks to reach F1 ends up going through F3 competitions ”, says Miguel, who is the youngest Brazilian driver to participate in an international driver's academy with an F1 team (Alfa Romeo).
The circuits that will be used by the championship in the simulators are some of the best and most important in the world. “It will be fun to participate in a championship accelerating on the main tracks in the world like Interlagos, Spa and Silverstone. I'm sure that in a few years I will also be racing in them in the main categories of motorsport ”, adds Miguel.
The pre-qualifying will be held at the Barcelona track this Sunday (29th) and the first race will take place at the Ímola circuit (31st). All pilots will use Dallara's F3 chassis.
