Costa overcomes adversity in tag mini
February 9, 2019Miguel Costa achieves five top-5 in his Castelletto debut at WSK
November 11, 2019The best drivers in the world of karting are back in action this weekend in Castelletto, Italy, where the WSK Open Cup will be held. In the Mini category, from 9 to 12 years old, one of the highlights is the Brazilian Miguel Costa, who called attention in Europe for its quick adaptation to the championships that bring together a world kart elite.
The young driver competes for the official Kart Republic team, led by experienced Italian coach Dino Chiesa, responsible for successful karting careers such as Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, the last two F1 world champions. This partnership has already won titles for the Brazilian in the 2019 season, including the Italian kart championship, in which Costa was champion among newcomers, with three wins in the year.
“This was an amazing season for people in Europe, where we started our competitions a year ago and got great results right off our debut, like the Italian championship title,” says Costa, who also featured at Le Mans this year, finish fifth among the 85 World Championship participants.
last year was the debut of the young Brazilian in the Mini category. Playing his first Karting World Championship, Miguel Costa won one of the heats and was 29th out of 160 participating riders. This year, it evolves further and was 16th.
The good debut year in Europe crowned high expectations after a series of achievements in the United States. In 2016, Miguel Costa was champion of the Micro category with six wins and seven poles. He was also runner-up of the ROK Cup with a win, repeating this placement the following year (2017), this time with two wins. “I started early in karting when I was 4, and my dream is to race in a big category like F1. So do everything to come to Europe or, as soon as possible, for those who can pursue this international career. I'm proud to be in such an amazing time as Kart Republic, which gives me a chance to get great results, and a Dino Chiesa experience helps me a lot”, says Costa, who is sponsored by Baked Potato and Participation.
