Miguel Costa debuts this weekend in the European Karting Championship, competition that kicks off in the kart track of Portimão, in Portugal. The driver, who is part of Sauber’s academy, comes from a good performance in the Lusitanian circuit, after winning the first stage of the Champions of the Future, a tournament that serves as the “Open” of the continental event.
The European Karting Championship is the main karting competition in the Old Continent, and it will gather the cream of the pilots who operate in the OK Junior class, where Costa is currently inserted. The performance of a fortnight ago makes the young driver go to the opening of the tournament very excited, and aiming to fight for the first places.
“The Champions of the Future stage showed that I am on the right track, winning victories and top-3 in qualifying heats. All of this is an indication that we can repeat our performance in the European Championship. So, my goal is to be among the first and get a good result not only in the heats, but also in the finals, “says Miguel.
“Here will be the top drivers on the planet, and play a good role in the very first stage will be important. It is a very important championship, but a short shot, with only four stages. So, we must always achieve good results to be able to have a good final position in the standings,” added the Brazilian driver, owner of three top-10 finishes in the WSK Super Masters this year.
The European Karting Championship will consist of four stages, passing through Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Italy. The Portimão round will have its first track commitments on Thursday, while the finals will be held on Sunday. The CIK/FIA YouTube channel shows the live track action.
