A member of the Sauber Karting Team, young Miguel Costa made his debut in the OK Junior category at the WSK Champions Cup (World Series Karting), a round of one of the main karting tournaments in the world that took place last weekend in Adria, Italy. At just 11 years of age, the Brazilian was one of the highlights closing the stage in 13th in the Final among 101 registered drivers, in addition to several top-5 and top-10 in the qualifying heats.
“It was really cool to debut in a category like OK Junior at the WSK. The level is very high and I have a lot to learn. We started out in the Final, we lost some positions, but we recovered. Our results were very consistent, always in the top 10 and we even guaranteed a fourth place in the Pre-Final, which was incredible. It was a really cool debut”, says Miguel, who also got a podium, a top-5 and three top-10 in the qualifying heats this weekend.
Miguel competed in his first season in the X30 Junior category in 2020 and has now moved up to OK Junior, making his debut in the category that houses drivers between 12 and 14 years of age. Last year, the young talent featured in championships in Italy, achieving several top-5 and top-10, and finishing the Italian Karting Championship in 7th place.
Prepared for WSK’s next stage, which takes place next weekend on the same circuit, Miguel valued the work done with the Sauber Karting Team, a Sauber young talent program linked to Alfa Romeo in F1.
“The Sauber Karting Team is an incredible place to evolve as a driver and we are improving with each passing week, alongside very qualified professionals. The results of the debut were very consistent and I think we surprised a lot of people, so we will work to achieve an even better result next weekend ”, says Miguel, who uses the Kart Republic chassis and is supported by Baked Potato and Participa.
Miguel’s next challenge will be in the first stage of the WSK Super Master Series, which will take place next weekend in Adria, Italy.
