In his first year in the OK Junior category, young Miguel Costa made his debut in the European Karting Championship in 2021 and competed in the last stage of the competition last weekend in Zuera, Spain. A member of the Sauber Karting Team’s young talents program, the Brazilian driver also traveled to Belgium, France and Italy throughout the championship and valued learning on his debut in the tournament.
“The European Karting Championship was a lot of learning for us. We had a good pace in some of the races and at times we lacked a bit of luck, but it was an extremely important competition for my evolution as a driver. I won a top-10 in one of the qualifying races in Belgium and now we are going home to recharge our batteries. The goal is to come back with everything in September at the WSK”, says Miguel, who has the support of Baked Potato and Participa.
Featured since last year in European karting, when he competed in the X30 Junior category, the 12-year-old Brazilian driver debuted in OK Junior in 2021 at just 11 years old – the category houses drivers from 12 to 14 years old. Miguel was the best rookie in the WSK Super Master Series and conquered a top-5 in the Final at La Conca.
With new experiences in the bag after the European Karting Championship, the young driver will seek to return to the top-5 of the WSK in September, when the Open Cup of the tournament will be disputed.
“I got to know new tracks, as was the circuit this past weekend, so we had great lessons. Now we are going to work to get to the WSK with a lot of speed and compete for podiums and victories”, says Miguel.
The first stage of the WSK Open Cup will be held in Lonato between September 15th and 19th, in Italy.
