November 17, 2019INTERVIEW “COSTA 2019 SEASON’S HIGHLIGHTS
December 1, 2019A young talent in international karting, Brazilian Miguel Costa played in the last leg of the 2019 WSK, which took place last weekend in Adria, Italy. The rider was highlighted by finishing the competition in 10th place among the 96 riders in his category. Miguel took three top-10 finishes in qualifying, with a sixth place finish, and returned to the top 10 in the final after starting from 22nd in the decisive race. The rider rated his performance in the Final as the best of his life.
“I had the best race of my life in the Final. I started at 22º and finished the race at 10º, there were many overtakes. With the high level of WSK, this is truly a spectacular race. It's only 10 laps per race, so it was more than an overtake per lap on average. A very special result for me”, says Costa.
Despite the good performance throughout the weekend, the Brazilian driver had problems in the fourth qualifying round and believes he could have gone to the podium if he had not been involved in an accident.
“In the fourth race, unfortunately an accident happened in front of me and I had no way to dodge it, still in the first lap. The track was blocked and that got in the way of my starting position in the Prefinal, only 16th. But we were always fast, always steady in the rain and dry, with pace in the top 10. I believe that if it wasn't for the beat we would fight for the podium. It was a very nice weekend in Adria and the balance was very positive projecting our evolution for 2020”, says Costa.
The young driver competes for the official Kart Republic team, led by experienced Italian coach Dino Chiesa, responsible for successful karting careers such as Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, two of the last F1 world champions. The partnership has already yielded titles for the Brazilian in the 2019 season, including the Italian kart championship, in which Costa was the rookies champion with three wins in the year.
