Miguel Costa, a young brazilian talent in international karting, will compete again this weekend at the Champions of the Future (COTF), in the Algarve, Portugal, the venue for the main KZ Kart World Championship preparation. These are the 15-year-old driver’s last two competitions of the year before he starts the transition to open wheels.
“We’ve been preparing very intensively here in Portugal. Training began last week and since then we’ve been improving our pace a lot. I hope to have a very strong championship and get to the KZ World Championship in the best possible way,” says Miguel, who placed 11th in the OK class at the World Kart Championship this month.
The Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve is located in Portimão, next to the circuit that has already hosted Formula 1 races in 2020 and 2021. Miguel even won COTF races at this portuguese karting track in 2022, when the competition was preparatory for the European Karting Championship in OK Junior.
“I have good memories of this track, I’ve won here before and I hope to win again. It’s a very challenging track, with more than 1,500 meters, so we’ll keep working in practice to try to qualify well and be well positioned on the grid for all the heats,” added Miguel, who races with a Parolin chassis for the Modena Kart team.
Training in Portugal continues on Wednesday and the first heats of the COTF will be held on Thursday. The races continue on Friday and the finals are scheduled for Saturday (28).
