Miguel Costa had a weekend never to be forgotten in his motorsport career. The Brazilian driver won a race for the first time in a championship in Europe, when he was the best competitor in the third qualifying heat of the opening round of Champions of the Future, held at the karting track in Portimão, Portugal.
Driver of the Sauber academy, Costa obtained, besides the victory, three top-5 and four top-10 in the qualifying heats held in the Portuguese karting track. On the “super heat”, the pre-final, another good result was obtained by the Brazilian, who finished in seventh. Starting from 16th in the final, Miguel climbed one place to finish in 15th.
“I conquered my first victory in European karting, and I am very happy with this result. Besides the victory, I still had a second and a fifth place, which shows clear evolution this season. The result in the final does not reflect our performance, but still, I finished very happy with everything I performed here”, says Miguel.
The performance shown in Portimão also encourages Costa to compete in another championship: the European Karting. That’s because the Champions of the Future runs exactly in the same tracks of the continental competition, which will have the Portuguese round disputed between April 7th and 10th.
“No doubt, our performance in Champions of the Future makes us very hopeful and excited for the first round of the European Karting Championship. We still have a few days until the round, but our performance here makes us very stocked for the opening of the championship at the beginning of April.
The next challenge for Miguel Costa will be the European Karting Championship opening round. In the Champions of the Future, the second round is scheduled to take place between April 14 and 17, in Zuera, Spain.
