Miguel Costa starts this weekend another challenge in his 2022 season. The driver is in Portimão, Portugal, for the opening round of the Champions of the Future, a championship that will have four rounds at some of the best karting tracks in Europe.
Costa has had a positive season so far, having finished three rounds of the WSK Super Masters among the top ten in the OK Junior class, the same class in which he will compete at Champions of the Future. The Brazilian intends to keep up the good momentum, but admits that the goal is to take a step further and look for victories and podiums.
“The Champions of the Future is a very traditional championship, and I leave for Portimão looking to fight for victories and good results. I had good results in the WSK Super Masters, and now I want to move on to fight further ahead, because I know I have the conditions for it,” said Costa, a Brazilian who is a member of the Sauber Academy.
Before the opening round, Champions of the Future had the Winter Series, a single round tournament held in Franciacorta, Italy. Now, besides Portimão, the championship will pass through three other karting tracks: Zuera, in Spain, Kristianstad, in Sweden, and Franciacorta, All four tracks will also host the European Karting Championship.
“This championship is also important because of the preparation for the European Karting Championship, which will be held on the same tracks. So, it is important to achieve good results in the Champions of the Future to have a good path to the European championship,” added Costa.
Practice for the Portuguese stage of the Champions of the Future will open on Thursday (24), and will continue until Friday, when the qualifying heats and the first qualifying heats will also be held, and will last until Saturday. The final races are scheduled for Sunday.
