Last weekend, the Brazilian Miguel Costa raced in another round of the Italian Karting Championship in Castelletto and was one of the highlights in the X30 Junior category with great recovery races. Even starting in the second half of the grid in the finals, the young driver was able to guarantee a top-5 and another top-10, achieving yet another positive result in his debut year in the Junior category. With the results, the young driver of the Sauber Karting Team closed the competition in seventh place among 71 registered drivers.
“We were very happy with the final results of this stage, they were very positive, as we had problems in qualifying. We had done little on the dry track and started 23rd in the first final. I did a good race and was able to finish in tenth. In the second final, I also overtook several karts and finished fifth. It was a very positive step”, says Miguel, who uses the Kart Republic chassis and is supported by Baked Potato and Participa.
Last week, when he competed in the ROK Superfinal, the young driver was also one of the highlights and just did not finish on the podium for having suffered a touch. Champion among 2019 Italian Karting Championship rookies, Miguel continues on Sauber’s young talent development program, linked with F1’s Alfa Romeo team.
In his first season in the X30 Junior category, Miguel was seventh in the championship and believes that it was a good evolution among older drivers.
“It was a good debut that we acquired at Junior. The most important thing is always the evolution and I am sure that I leave this championship as a more mature driver. We are going with everything for the next rounds that we dispute and I am sure that I am getting closer and closer to being able to win at Junior”, completed Miguel.
