A young Brazilian revelation in Europe, Miguel Costa is one of the country's highlights in international karting and is already preparing to fulfill his dream of competing in the Karting World Championship in Brazil in 2021. Last weekend, the only 11-year-old started a new phase in his career when competing in his first races in the Junior category, which traditionally houses drivers between 12 and 14 years old. Italian Karting champion in 2019 among the rookies, Miguel was in sixth place in the Final of IAME Series round in Adria and approved his learning in the new category.
“Throughout my career, I moved up early. I went from Micro to Mini when I was 8 years old and now, once again, together with my team we decided to go up to OK Junior. I feel strong and prepared for this new journey ", says Miguel, who also competed in several stages of World Series Karting (WSK) in Europe, one of the main karting championships in the world.
Miguel is part of the young talents of the Sauber Karting Team, which has a partnership with the F1 Alfa Romeo team. Younger Brazilian in the main karting competitions in Europe, Miguel also stood out last weekend with the third place overall in the qualifier and in one of the qualifying heats. Miguel's goal is to finish his preparation well for the Italian Karting Championship, which will start next week.
“I had good results in the qualifying heats after being only one tenth of pole. I also had a good race in the Final, in which I started in 12th and finished in sixth position. I leave happily and with my head held high, I had the speed to fight for the victory, but they hit me in the first heat and that hindered my chances to start a little further on the Final's grid. Now we are going home and next week we will be in Italy again to accelerate again ”, says Miguel, who accelerates for Kart Republic and has the support of Baked Potato and Participa.
The young driver from the Sauber Karting Team heads this week to Siena to compete in the next stage of the IAME Series. The first stage of the Italian Karting Championship, where he also competes in the Junior category, is scheduled for the 7th, 8th and 9th of August at the International Circuit of Triscina, in Southern Italy.
