Young brazilian was fourth in the opening round of the SIM Racing Karters Championship; virtual tournament with F3 cars is exclusive for go-kart drivers and has 70 participants from 20 different nationalities

Member of the Sauber Karting Team, young Miguel Costa finished fourth place at the opening of the SIM Racing Karters Championship, an international F3 virtual tournament exclusively for kartists. The Brazilian driver made several overtakes at the circuit of Imola (Italy) and is already preparing for the next stage this Thursday (02).

With the result, the 11 year-old driver managed to rise from group B to group A in the competition. The tournament has 70 registered drivers and the international competition has participants from 20 different nationalities. “We started the championship well. It's really fun to race in simulators and I thought it was really cool to accelerate in Formula 3 cars, which is one of several steps before arriving in F1. We will continue to focus on this alternative preparation that we have before returning to the karting tournaments in Italy ”, says Costa, who is the youngest Brazilian representative in an international driver academy connected with an F1 team (Alfa Romeo).

In this debut, Miguel managed to jump from 14th place at the start to close the race in fourth. The SIM Racing Karters Championship emerges as a training opportunity for young drivers throughout the social isolation necessary to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We will continue to prepare at home, work cannot stop. I hope that this pandemic gets resolved as soon as possible so that we can accelerate again at the karting tracks. In the meantime, we are looking to win in this virtual tournament, which has several famous and challenging motorsport tracks”, adds Miguel, who was Italian kart champion among the rookies in 2019.

The next stage of the SIM Racing Karters Championship is this Thursday (02) at the Circuit of the Americas, in the USA.
